CORTLANDT, N.Y. - There are plenty of ways to get involved this weekend, from pulling invasive plant species out of Black Rock Park to attending a pancake breakfast to benefit the Croton Cub Scouts Pack 28.

Friday, Jan. 18

Sportime USA Elmsford: 6:45-9:45 p.m. The Croton Recreation Department brings middle school students to Sportime USA in Elmsford for the evening. The recreation fee is $19, which includes 25 game tokens and one laser tag game. Reservations are recommended for all events. Call 914-271-8562 for more information or to make reservations.

Saturday, Jan. 19

Invasive Vine Pull at Black Rock Park: 10 a.m. to noon. Members of the Croton Conservation Advisory Council say Black Rock Park, on the shores of the Croton River, is being strangled by invasive vines. To pull out some of these vines with members of the council, bring loppers, hand snips and hand saws. Be sure to wear sturdy waterproof shoes and gloves. Meet other volunteers at the Black Rock Park parking lot on Quaker Bridge Road. Severe weather cancels the event.

Sandy Hook 5K Walk-Run Benefit: 10 a.m. Join members of the Taconic Road Runners Club for a 5K walk or run through Franklin D. Roosevelt Park in Yorktown. There is a $25 registration fee, the entirety of which benefits the Newtown Park Gift Fund. Additional details are available on the road runners' website.

LEGO League: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Join the block party at the Hendrick Hudson Free Library. This event is designed for children in grades 1-4. Register by phone at 914-739-5654, or visit the library at 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose.

Memoirs of a Magic Queen:  2 p.m. Margaret Steele, a magician and historian, will conduct an unusual program at The Little Red Schoolhouse, 297 Locust Ave., Cortlandt Manor. Sponsored by The Van Cortlandtville Historical Society, the event is free. A local author and editor, Steele will talk about the new book she compiled and edited -- "Adelaide Herrmann, Queen of Magic: Memoirs, Published Writings and Collected Ephemera."

Sunday, Jan. 20

Pancake Breakfast: 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Cub Scout Pack 28 invites the community to a pancake breakfast at Holy Name of Mary Church Parish Hall (gym), 110 Grand St., Croton. Cub Scout families will cook and serve pancakes, sausages and beverages. All proceeds benefit the Cub Scout general fund, which provides money for the upcoming Pinewood Derby.
