Bergen County Historians Unveil Undiscovered Treasures In Ridgewood

RIDGEWOOD, N. J. -- Bergen County genealogical leaders set about to find five previously undiscovered or unpublished documents and artifacts to put together the 2016 special project titled "Bergen County in Five Objects," which will be presented Monday, Nov. 28, at the Ridgewood Public Library.

The Bergen County Genealogical Society has chosen five unpublished or undiscovered objects to tell untold stories about local history in a Nov. 29 presentation titled "Bergen County in Five Objects."

Officials said they looked through attics and archives to find at least five things that could tell untold stories about Bergen County's history. The presentation, part of the society's annual meeting, is a culmination of that research that is also published, officials said.

Led by Michelle Novac, trustee for the Genealogical Society of Bergen County, along with other officials, the presentation takes place from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 28 in the auditorium at the library, 125 N. Maple Ave., Ridgewood.

Society officials say online programs such as Ancestry and FamilySearch allow people access to government records from home computers, but not always local records and documents. The items officials selected are things that haven't been widely shared before, officials said.
