A pair of longtime staffers -- news columnist Phil Reisman and sports reporter Rick Carpiniello, who had both been with the paper for nearly 40 years, were among the five, lohud.com said.
Reisman’s position will remain empty and with the loss of Carpiniello, and Yankees beat writer Chad Jennings, lohud's professional sports coverage will rely heavily on partnerships with other Gannett-area entities in the metro area, including the newly added North Jersey Media Group, added lohud.com.
The layoffs were said to be a cost-cutting move, reported lohud.com.
