Raises For Clarkstown Workers Vex Incoming GOP Supervisor

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Thwarted in an attempt to postpone a vote on a union contract that raises the salaries of town workers, incoming Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann says he will look for ways to spare taxpayers, according to lohud.com

Hoehmann said he and fellow Republican Councilman Frank Borelli were not aware of a deal that gave raises to workers represented by the Civil Service Employees Association, says lohud.com.

The raises total 9 percent over four years and could force the town into layoffs or a hiring free, reports lohud.com.

Outgoing officials maintain Hoehmann knew about the contract’s terms during negotiations, according to lohud.
