CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Orangetown police officers needing to attend the funeral of a fallen brother got an assist Monday from their colleagues in Clarkstown.
Nearly a dozen volunteers provided mutual aid to Orangetown, so their counterparts there could pay their last respects to Neil O’Sullivan, a retired officer who died last week of cancer.
O’Sullivan was 58.
His funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Gregory Barbarigo Roman Catholic Church in Garnerville.
According to his obituary, O’Sullivan served in the Orangetown police department for 28 years.
He retired in 2015 and then took a part-time job with the South Nyack/Grandview Police Department.
O’Neil is survived by his wife, Laura; daughters, Darcie and Dana; stepmother, Mary O’Sullivan; and a sister, Eleanor Handelsman; father-in-law John Wylie; sister-in-law Donna Perlitz; cousins; nieces and nephews, his brothers and sisters in Blue; many friends; and Rover.
