On Friday, a warranted search resulted in the arrest of two men and the recovery of narcotics.
Members of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Special Investigations Section searched a home on the 2600 block of Pacific Avenue. During the search, detectives seized two ounces of cocaine, 176 bags of heroin, prescription pills, a small amount of marijuana, and items used to distribute the narcotics, according to Lt. Kevin Fair, a police department spokesman.
Abu Rasheed, 27, and Khalif Rasheed, 19, both of Atlantic City, were arrested, Fair said. Abu was charged with multiple drug possession and distribution offenses, including within a school zone. Khalif was charged with possessing narcotic paraphernalia, police said.
Both men were released on a summons with a future court date. The investigation was led by Detective Chris Smith.
A separate two-month investigation into the distribution of narcotics from an Atlantic City apartment building led to the arrest of four men and the recovery of multiple handguns and drugs, according to Lt. Fair.
On Wednesday, members of the DEA Liberty Mid-Atlantic High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force and Atlantic City Police Department Special Investigations Section and SWAT Team executed simultaneous warranted searches at two apartments within the Madison Hotel in the 100-south block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard.
Detectives recovered five handguns, 34 grams of heroin, 17 grams of cocaine, 310 grams of marijuana, and $1,000 cash, Fair said.
The investigation was led by task force members Detective Will Herrerias of the Atlantic City Police Department and Detective Fenil Gandhi of the Galloway Township Police Department.
“Those arrested during this operation were allegedly responsible for the distribution of heroin and other drugs in the Atlantic City area,” said Susan A. Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Jersey Division. “Once again, the recovery of several handguns reinforces the premise that drugs and guns go hand-in-hand which leads to violence, and these arrests are proof of that which has made the community safer."
James Sarkos, Interim Officer-in-Charge of the Atlantic City Police Department, said, “The removal of multiple handguns and drugs from our streets makes our neighborhoods safer."
Arrested on multiple drug possession, dealing and weapons charges were:
- Edwin Jones, 35, of Atlantic City;
- James Mayes, 30, of Egg Harbor Township;
- Whitley Molley, 32, of Atlantic City;
- John Sessoms, 36, of Atlantic City;
All four were being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, according to Lt. Fair.
