NEW CITY, N.Y. -- The Clarkstown Police Department opened its prescription drug mailbox recently to find that more than 40 pounds of prescription medication had been brought in for disposal by area residents, authorities said.
The medication, collected in a span of about three weeks, is proof that the drop box program is an effective way to keep prescription drugs away from addicts, police said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
Clarkstown's mailbox is located within police headquarters at 20 Maple Ave. People wishing to dispose of their medications are urged to utilize the box or leave them with an officer at the office window.
