NANUET, N.Y. -- Lia Krieger, of Nanuet, passed away at Joe Raso Hospice Residence July 6, 2016 with her family at her side. She was 96.
She was born May 11, 1920, in Karlsruhe, Germany, to Joseph and Rose Treier.
On Dec. 9, 1950, she married William Krieger in Manhattan. He preceded her in death April 24, 1992. She also was preceded in death by brothers Raymond and Hugo and her son Ralph Krieger.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Mary) Krieger of Pearl River; grandchildren, Jastlin, Michael and Erica; and daughter-in-law Lisa Krieger.
After becoming a U.S. citizen in 1952, she had many jobs while raising her sons. Her last, and most enjoyable position, was as executive secretary to the president of Becker Corporation, in which she used her secretarial and German bilingual skills. She reluctantly retired from that position in 1990.
She was a fiercely independent woman who took pride in her work, her children and grandchildren. She made wonderful, lifelong memories traveling the world with close friends and family.
Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home of Pearl River is handling the private funeral arrangements. Condolences can be placed at www.wymanfisher.com
The family will host a celebration of her life at a later date.
Memorials may be offered to the Joe Raso Hospice Residence, 415 Buena Vista Road, New City, NY 10956. The family would like to thank her loving home health aide, Galyna Mirzoyan, and hospice care givers for their exceptional care of Lia.
