Frederick Schettig, 90, Of Valley Cottage

VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. – Frederick Schettig, a resident of Valley Cottage, died Wednesday, March 16. He was 90.

He was born Sept. 4, 1925, to Gustave Schettig and Mary Palkovick Schettig in Sparkill. After serving in the Army Air Corps in North Africa during World War II, he married his wife, Doris of Closter N.J. He retired from International Paper as a service manager in 1988 and moved to Ocean View, Del.

He was also involved in the Men’s Club at St. Anne’s in Ocean View, active in the Knights of Columbus in Piermont and served as a committee chair person for the Democratic Club in Bethany Beach, Del.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Pam Schettig Butler; a son, Guy, and his wife, Wendy; his grandchildren, Amy and her husband, Brian Diehl; Ryan; and Liza and her significant other, Sean McManus; his sister, Gloria Hannafin; his brother, Jerry, and his wife, Joan; and with 11 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son Scott and nephew Jerry.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hannemann Funeral Home Inc. in Nyack. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 21, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Piermont with a military burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society or United Hospice of Rockland County.
