NEW HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- An 81-year-old New Hempstead woman will be joining her decades-younger classmates when they get their diplomas in a few weeks, according to a report by lohud.com.
Gertrude “Trudy” Murdock, who had attended Rockland Community College in the early 1970s, had to put her formal studies aside while she raised three children and pursued a career in banking, the lohud.com report said.
But now, 44 years later, she can cross another item off her bucket list – she will graduate on May 22 with an associate’s degree in liberal arts, lohud.com reported.
And, she did it all while mastering new technologies and battling breast cancer, the lohud.com story said.
