The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), honored the Valley Cottage business in the Companion Animal category, basing its decision on a set of “complex selection criteria” that measured standards of practice, quality of medicine, staff training and community service, according to the statement, which noted that the AAHA accredits animal hospitals based on more than 900 standards.

According to the statement, Valley Cottage Animal Hospital is the only New York metro-area veterinary hospital to earn accreditation by the AAHA, a designation it has held since 1989.

“I speak for our entire staff when I say how proud we are to have achieved this recognition,” said Dr. Diane B. Tortorice. “There are over 15,000 animal hospitals in the United States and Canada and to be listed in the top four is truly an astounding achievement that demonstrates our commitment to excellence for our patients.”

The full-service animal hospital at 202 Route 303, Valley Cottage, has been in operation since 1980, according to the statement, which said the business treats animals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Valley Cottage Animal Hospital partners with the Hi-Tor Animal Shelter, providing free healthcare and vaccinations for the Pomona nonprofit. The group also sponsors local rabies clinics and several community events, according to the statement.
