CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Voters in Chappaqua overwhelmingly approved the school district's proposed $42.5 million bond package on Tuesday.

Results from the district show that 1,380 voted in favor of the measure while just 852 voted against.

The totals include absentee ballots, according to District Clerk Therese Dell'olio, who added that 17 affidavit ballots have yet to be counted. Due to the margin of passage, the affidavit votes will not alter the outcome of the referendum.

"Our work has just begun," Chappaqua Schools Superintendent Lyn McKay said in a statement posted on the district's website. "With all of us working together, we soon will have even safer schools, upgraded fields, an improved public library, and larger, purposefully designed, more flexible education spaces equipped with advanced technology for all of our students."

The bond package will support renovations to spaces at all six school buildings, which are intended to add rooms for "active learning" and for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Music) activities. The package also includes renovations and additions for the Chappaqua Library.

The library is an autonomous arm of the school district.

Also included in the package is funding for the installation of turf fields at Horace Greeley High School and Robert E. Bell Middle School.

The district hopes to have all measures in the bond package completed by the fall of 2019, with some being finished in 2017 and 2018.

Previous coverage of the renovations is available here.
