Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Post Road and Olmsted Road at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, where there was a report of a crash.

Police said that New Rochelle resident Gerald Collins, Jr., 39, was driving a Toyota Camry south on Post Road when he rear-ended a Jeep Wrangler that was stopped at a red light. The impact of the crash caused Collins’ airbags to deploy.

According to police, while speaking with Collins, he had the smell of alcohol from his breath and multiple open vodka bottles and an empty beer bottle inside his Camry. Further investigation determined that Collins had an active warrant out for his arrest in Pelham for a prior aggravated DWI charge in Pelham that was issued after he failed to appear in court.

Collins was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent. After being processed, Collins was released and is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Village Court at a later date to respond to the charges.
