Chappaqua School Taxes Due on Jan. 31

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - The New Castle Town Board convenes four times monthly for scheduled board meetings and work session at Town Hall. Here are some of the top issues and announcements discussed at Tuesday's meeting:

School Taxes Due on Jan. 31

New Castle residents are running out of time to pay the second half of their school taxes, with Jan. 31 being the last chance to pay without penalty. According to Town Supervisor Susan Carpenter, residents can pay the taxes online or in person at the tax office, which will hold post-dated checks for timely deposit.

"Any time between now and the 31st if you want to bring your check in, you can post-date it and they won't deposit it until the 31st," said Carpenter.

On the day taxes are due, the tax office will be open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and residents will also be able to pay online until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 31.

Campapalooza at New Castle Community Center

New Castle Recreation and Parks Department is holding Campapalooza on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the New Castle Community Center. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the department will have information available for all of its summer camps. There will also be live music, mad science, and Lego building. The snow date is Feb. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"I'd like to remind everybody that even though it may not seem like it, summer is right around the corner," said Carpenter. "If you're interested in signing your children up for summer camp, you should put those dates on your calendar."

Reminder of No Overnight Street Parking

New Castle Police and the Department of Public Works are once again reminding residents not to park on town roads overnight. Residents found parking in those areas between 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. until April 1 will be subject to fines.

"You never know when there will a snowstorm and you need to get the cars off the road," said Carpenter.

March 13 Town Board/Millwood Task Force Meeting to Air on Tape Delay

The scheduled joint March 13 meeting between the New Castle Town Board and the Millwood Task Force will be recorded, however, it will not be aired live. The meeting will air on tape delay and will also be archived on the New Castle Community Media Center website.

Tax Certiorari Refunds

The board authorized two property tax certiorari refunds of $915 and $585.68. The refunds came as a result of court-ordered assessment reductions from the 2010 tax season.
