CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – After 11 years as senior rabbi, Rabbi Joshua M. Davidson will be leaving Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester effective July 1 to become the next senior rabbi of Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York, which is pending membership confirmation.

“While we are saddened by the departure of a rabbi we have come to know and treasure, we will take great pride in knowing that one of our own will be ascending to one of the preeminent pulpits of American Judaism,” said Temple Beth El President Harry Cohen.

During his time at Temple Beth El, which is located at 220 South Bedford Road in Chappaqua, Davidson was praised for serving the congregation with leadership and compassion, as well as “his passion for social justice and interfaith dialogue, which have left an indelible mark on both Temple Beth El and the wider community,” Temple Beth El said in a press release.

As the search for a new Senior Rabbi begins, Temple Beth El is confident in its future, as it recently introduced a newly designed, state-of-the-art nursery school wing and completed major renovation of its sanctuary.

While Temple Beth El will say goodbye to Davidson on July 1, they will also welcome two new members to its professional staff—Cantor Star Trompeter and Rabbi Maura Linzer.

To help Temple Beth El transition in its search for a new Senior Rabbi, Rabbi Alan Fuchs will return as interim Rabbi for one year, also beginning on July 1.

Fuchs performed the same duty for Temple Beth El in 2001-2002 during the temple’s last search for a Senior Rabbi. He will be joined by Associate Rabbi Geoffrey Mitelman, who is now in his sixth year with the congregation.
