Fire Department To Offer Day Of Safety

The Chappaqua Fire Department will be hosting an open house on Sunday, October 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to the Chappaqua Fire Department, the department will be hosting a series of demonstrations practical for the whole family in order to try and teach tips for fire safety and life-saving techniques.

They will demonstrate the putting out of a car fire, and also a car extrication. Children will be able to participate in “house full of smoke,” where they will learn what to do in an emergency situation, if they are caught in a burning house or building. Firefighters will also demonstrate how to extinguish a real fire using a fire extinguisher.

In addition to the demonstrations, fire safety videos will be shown and fire safety materials will be distributed to all visitors. Westchester County’s Operation Safe Smiles will also be present to provide child I.D. packages that will include an identification card with the picture of the child, their name and address and their fingerprints.

New Castle Police Department will also be present if parents would like them to check and determine whether they have properly installed their child’s car seat. Refreshments will also be served to all visitors.
