A key goal for his firm will be making public space improvements that will spur economic growth in the downtown district.

According to Kate Borders, President and Executive Director of the Downtown Tempe Community (DTC), Biederman’s company is developing a master plan for the Authority suggesting how improvements to downtown Tempe’s public spaces—including streets, plazas and parks--can reinforce and encourage further commercial and residential development.

The BRV plan is focused on near-term, implementable programming and events that will attract more people to the downtown area on an everyday basis and better serve downtown’s office workers and residents, as well as nearby Arizona State University students and staff.

The plan will also contain recommendations on physical improvements to downtown Tempe’s streets.

Biederman first gained national attention for the revival of New York City’s Bryant Park, which he transformed in 1992 from a crime-ridden, drug-filled, dangerous place behind the New York Public Library into a seven-acre jewel and quiet haven for New Yorkers.

Bryant Park has won numerous awards in the field of real estate, planning and recreation.

Other award-winning parks completed by Biederman Redevelopment Ventures include Klyde Warren Park in Dallas, Schenley Plaza in Pittsburgh and Military Park in Newark.

Notable past clients include Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Herald and Greeley Squares in New York and Miami’s Bayfront Park.

Aside from urban parks and plazas, Biederman has also consulted on downtown redevelopment and management projects in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta and Philadelphia, among other cities.

Biederman is currently working on similar projects in Houston, Boston, Buffalo and Oakland.
