Hudson Valley resident Chris Reisman is one of the many who loves the warm sound of a needle on vinyl, and brings his love of vintage records to Beacon this week with the opening of Hudson Valley Vinyl.

"I've always wanted to open a shop in Beacon, and the stars aligned," Reisman told Daily Voice during a recent visit. "The store is in a good location, and the timing was right."

Resiman took over what was Audiocult, at 267 Main Street in Beacon. But while the previous store focused on new records, Hudson Valley Vinyl is all about vintage recordings.

"Meaning original recordings from the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s," Reisman said. "We won't have any new releases - unless they're used."

HVV will sell, buy or trade used records, CD's, and will specialize in everything from rock to jazz to reggae and ethnic sounds. They'll have a 'cheap' bin with discounted items, and will also stock hard-to-find collectibles, like boxed sets.

Reisman gained an interest in recorded music at an early age. "I started making music when I was young," he said. "Started sampling, and I love discovering new music. I absorbed it like a sponge, and it made me like a bit of everything.

"I hear people say Beacon needs a record shop, and I feel like that's a need I can fill," he added. "I grew up seeing what record stores did right and wrong."

Reisman is about to get his shot, with the store set to open Monday, March 27 at noon.

"I'm just super excited, and super nervous," he said while putting the final touches on the store's interior. "I want everything to be perfect... I want this to be the place people want to go."

Hudson Valley Vinyl can be reached at 845-765-1411. For more info check the store's website or Facebook page.
