Streaking Bronxville Broncos Roll Into Rye Neck

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – If the Bronxville football team has lost any of its Section 1 dominance since losing most of its 2010 Class C state championship team to graduation, you’d never know it after the first three games of the 2011 season.

The powerful Broncos (3-0), coming off a decisive 33-12 victory over Class D state champion and neighboring rival Tuckahoe, look to extend their Section 1 winning streak to 22 games and their overall unbeaten string to 16 when they visit Rye Neck Saturday at 3 p.m.

“We are improving offensively and playing better on defense since opening day,” Broncos lineman Sean Callahan said. “We know we lost a lot of great players, but we all know what it takes to win. I think we can get better and compete for another Section 1 title and more.”

Bronxville’s running game has been its anchor for two years in the capable hands of sibling running backs Christian and Jackson Conway. Christian, who amassed 214 yards and four touchdowns last week, carries the ball, and Jackson is a protective brother and lead blocker.  The brothers also man the Broncos linebacking corps.

Defenses that try to key on the Conways will also face a blooming passing game with quarterback Max Boyd throwing to his key receiver Matt Tormey. The tandem connected for two scores against the Tigers last week.

“We have to have a good passing game to beat good teams,” Boyd said. “We’re capable of throwing the ball.”

Rye Neck (0-3) is led by quarterback Tom Pipilo, who completed 4 of 11 for 32 yards, and running back Steven Falco, who gained 138 yards, in last week’s 28-8 loss to Haldane.

Rye Neck will struggle to compete with the mighty Broncos, who have already beaten the toughest teams (Dobbs Ferry and Tuckahoe) they will face on their schedule.

Will Bronxville extend its 15-game Section 1 winnnig streak against Rye Neck?
