Broncos Finish Class C Semifinal Over Blind Brook

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Volunteers shoveled  several inches snow off the Bronxville High School turf field Sunday before the host Broncos went back on the field and finished Saturday’s suspended Section 1 Class C semifinal with a 47-13 victory over Blind Brook.

“Finding out (Saturday) we would have to come back and play that team again was bothering to some of us knowing that we had a big lead,” Bronxville lineman Sean Callahan said. “But we responded really well today and put a lot of points on the board.”

The Section 1 Class C semifinal playoff football game between Bronxville and Blind Brook began Saturday in the middle of the unusual snow storm and was suspended with the Broncos leading 26-6.

The top-seeded Broncos (8-0), who won their 20th consecutive game dating back to the 2009 state playoffs, eliminated fourth-seeded Blind Brook (6-2) to advance to Saturday’s Class C title game against Dobbs Ferry at Mahopac High School. Bronxville edged Dobbs Ferry 15-14 on opening day.

Broncos running back Christian Conway, who ran for four touchdowns Saturday before the game was stopped, added two more Sunday. Conway, who is headed for Yale University next season along with twin brother and backfield mate Jackson Conway, surpassed the 1,500-yard rushing mark for the season and has scored (29) touchdowns over eight games.

Blind Brook quarterback Jaime Ketchabaw scored his team’s first touchdown Saturday to make the score 26-6 before the game was halted Saturday.

“Dobbs next week is going to be a dog fight like it was Week 1, but this time the stakes are much higher,” Callahan said.  We’re going to be working harder than ever before to get ready for that 8 p.m. at Mahopac next Saturday.”
