Charles Ames Cleveland, 92, Formerly Of Bronxville

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Charles Ames Cleveland, a resident of Minneapolis and formerly of Bronxville, died on Sunday, Aug. 30, at his hunting cabin in Wilson, Wyo. He was 92.

Cleveland was born on Aug. 5, 1923, in New Rochelle to John Luther and Elizabeth Allen (Ames) Cleveland.

He graduated from Dartmouth College and the Tuck School of Business, serving in the Military Intelligence department of the War Communications Office in Washington, D.C., during World War II as a translator and code breaker for Japanese intercepts.

After the war, he worked on Wall Street, rising to vice president at Morgan Guaranty and Banker’s Trust. After moving to Minneapolis, he was a managing partner at Fishcreek Ventures.

He is survived by three children, Charles Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Napa; Helen of Minneapolis; Dwight and his wife Gabriela of Chicago; seven grandchildren; a sister Elizabeth Lackey and her husband F. Danby, and brother, John.

Cleveland was predeceased by his wife Thirza and one grandchild.

No memorial service will be held, per his wishes.
