The Bronxville Village Board created a new zoning district Tuesday night that will enable owners of Objects and Images in Fine Art to open a new gallery.
Trustees had to sign off on the changes, only applicable to this property, that will allow the building at 117 Pondfield Road to house the gallery.
"We need one more step for the process to be complete," said Mayor Mary Marvin. "The matter must be approved by the Planning Board on July 13, and hopefully after that, the gallery can move forward."
Marvin said the upcoming gallery is a perfect use for the building, which began as a Shell Gas Station and most recently was a consignment shop.
"The building is right on the edge of the business district and the residential district," Marvin said. "The gallery is a use that will fit nicely in that part of town."
Bronxville native Dean Lombardo said that he has been looking for the perfect spot to reopen the family gallery. "The timing for us to purchase this building was perfect," he said. "We can't wait to be opened again."
Lombardo and his Dad, Phil, owned a gallery by the same name in the village for 12 years. They sold the building about three years ago.
When the building became available, the Lombardo's said it was perfect for their needs.
"We plan to put the gallery on the first floor and our offices on the second floor," he said
Lombardo said the gallery will showcase a variety of artists but reknowned sports artist Graig Kreindler is a favorite.
Once the matter is before planners on July 13, Lombardo said he will have to secure a building permit from the village.
"We plan on doing extensive renovations," he said."The building had fallen into such disrepair it was unsafe for anyone to be in it."
With any luck, Lombardo said the gallery will open sooner rather than later.
"It can happen anytime between October and we don't know, but hopefully October," he said.
