Bronxville School Staff Volunteer Monthly At New Rochelle Center

NEW ROCHELLE, N. Y. -- A group of teachers and staff members from Bronxville Elementary School in Bronxville set an example of giving for their students by volunteering their time each month at New Rochelle's Hope Community Services' soup kitchen.

What started out as a one-time volunteer effort at New Rochelle's Hope Community Services soup kitchen has become a monthly effort for a group of Bronxville Elementary School teachers and staff members.

At the most recent visit Nov. 21, the group served more than 150 people macaroni and cheese, bread, salad, ham and cake, then stayed to clean up. Led by third-grade teacher Veronica Fiore, the group was made up of school secretary Mary Reilly, third-grade teachers Jasmine Cacace, Carol Fata and Judy Visoky.

“We all feel grateful for the opportunity to help those less fortunate than us and to make a difference in their everyday lives,” Fiore said. “It makes us thankful for what we have. It is important to give back and that’s why we continue to volunteer each month.”

The group plans to return to help on Dec. 19. Fiore said she joined the volunteer efforts three years ago with the Bronxville Teachers’ Association, and it turned into a monthly effort.
