A registered "predicate" sex offender convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl has reported a move into Westchester County.
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 41-year-old Devin Best, who has moved to a residence on Van Cortlandt Park Avenue in Yonkers.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Best as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a predicate sex offender.
According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Best had deviate sexual intercourse with his 12-year-old victim in May 1999 and was arrested by the NYCPD Sex Offender Unit. Best was sentenced to a term of between 54 months and 84 months in prison in February the following year after being convicted of aggravated sexual abuse and second-degree rape involving a person under the age of 18. Best had previous convictions for rape and sexually abusing a minor. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Yonkers City Police Department SOR Unit.
