Local Restaurant Earnings Help Briarcliff Schools

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Briarcliff residents eating out at local restaurants on Thursday will not only help the local economy, but the local schools.

More than a dozen Briarcliff restaurants are participating in the Briarcliff Manor Education Foundation’s Dine Around Town Day, a program that allows restaurants to donate 10 percent of proceeds to the BMEF.

The BMEF is an organization that assists the Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District in obtaining grant funding for the school system. This year’s participating restaurants include Orfino’s, Good Food, Janniello’s, Terra Rustica, Dom & Vinnie’s, Patio, Paese, Villarina’s, Hunan Garden, Briars, Squires, Euro Pizza, Yama Fuji Sushi and China City.

Good Food Briarcliff Owner John Chambal said Wednesday he was proud to participate in the program.

“Education isn’t just important to our children and our families but our whole community,” Chambal said. “We’re happy to help fund the BMEF because it’s a great cause that helps us all out.”

While Janniello’s is not a sit-down restaurant, owner Vincent Janniello said all customers purchasing take out or delivery orders would be able to help out the program Thursday.

“It’s a great program and I hope we get a good turnout,” Janniello said. “We’ve tried to help out every year because they support our schools and that’s something we always want to do.”

Grant co-chair Liz Susman said the program has raised about $1,200 annually for the BMEF, which has helped receive grants for the school district’s SMART boards and other technology items for the district.

“If you go out with your family or friends you’ll also be able to do something for our schools,” Susman said, adding that the proceeds go toward the organization’s $50,000 budget. “The SMART boards were our big ticket initiative but each year we’ve gone out for grant funding.”
