BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – As part of their health curriculum's mindfulness unit, three Briarcliff Middle School eighth-graders decided to put together a public service announcement video detailing the ways their classmates can relieve stress.
Daniel de Castro, Lee Gelfand and Aaron Rotter learned about the hormones that affect stress in the body as part of the mindfulness unit, and were inspired to create the video as a way to help their peers.
Teacher Allison Murphy wanted to get students thinking of mindfulness early on in the year with an eye towards attaining 'a stronger sense of how they can incorporate this idea in their lives, not just in [the] classroom.'
De Castro, Gelfand and Rotter certainly plan to do just that.
“Now we know the bad effects of stress and how to deal with it better,” said de Castro. “We also asked our classmates about strategies they use to deal with stress.”
“Having a good mind can help you to be more productive,” adds Rotter.
The video is available on the Briarcliff Schools website at www.briarcliffschools.org.
