BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- The author of the popular children's book about a yellow dog, Biscuit, paid a visit to Todd Elementary School recently.

"Biscuit" author Alyssa Capucilli visited kindergarten and first-grade students so they could learn how she creates her stories, said teacher/librarian Tara Phethean.

She recounted how Capucilli showed the kids her writer's notebook, which she used "for jotting down ideas, working out stories and choosing oh-so-carefully the best words."

Capucilli calls it her "treasure keeper," she told the kids.

She also shared details about how books are made, from writing to printing and binding, Phethean said.

She brought along a sample “press sheet,” which is folded, cut and bound to make a finished book for the program, the Todd PTA sponsored.
