The recently installed street lamps on North State Road were without power for weeks after repairs slowed during the lockout and caused a backlog of work orders with Con Edison. Briarcliff Manor officials filed a work order to connect the street lamps in June, but officials were told there would be delays due to the work stoppage, in which 8,500 union workers were locked out after contract talks broke down on July 1.
Village Manager Philip Zegarelli said Con Edison expedited the process when the workers returned in August.
“Virtually a week after they found out about it, they called us up and made sure to take care of the work order,” Zegarelli said Thursday. “We expected a backlog of work orders, but they took care of us right away.”
After Hurricane Sandy at the end of October, Briarcliff Manor officials decided to hold weekly meetings with Con Edison officials to discuss repairs and improve communication between the village and the power company.
