SCARBOROUGH, N.Y. Looking for a pumpkin? St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Scarborough has them in all sizes and proceeds from its pumpkin sales go towards the Ossining Food Pantry, the Ossining Open Door Family Medical Center and the Sunshine Children's Rehabilitation Center.
Last year, St. Mary's parishioners used proceeds from the pumpkin sale as well as their own funds to buy clothing and educational toys for 48 children at the Sunshine Children's Rehabilitation Center.
"These children who suffer from either low communication/responsive level or who are non-communicative due to respective health issues were able to express their joy beyond words when they were remembered last Christmas," said Henriette O'Connor, the 2011 pumpkin sale coordinator.
St. Mary's church is located on Route 9 next to the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. Pumpkins are being sold Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. up until Halloween day.
St. Mary's new Priest-in Charge, Rev. Sandra Seaborn, said she and her family are very excited about the pumpkin sale.
"St. Mary's is a historic, yet vibrant church whose members are committed to community care," she said.
