A convicted felon reportedly admitted that he stabbed a former coworker in a Westchester Stop & Shop four years ago.

Joseph Joy, an ex-employee at Stop & Shop in North White Plains, has admitted to the stabbing in December 2016.

According to police, shortly after 5 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2016, Joy, a White Plains resident, entered the Stop & Shop location on North Broadway and attacked the employee with a knife, prompting several emergency 911 calls from her co-workers.

Joy, distracted by customers and staff, fled the store but was taken into custody without incident upon the arrival of North Castle police officers.

Joy’s victim was transported to White Plains Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police confirmed that Joy is a former employee of the Stop & Shop location and “this was not a random incident.”

Investigators eventually tracked down Joy, who has been detained at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla since, where he has had multiple scuffles with corrections officers.

This week, Joy, 37, pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court to multiple counts of assault, and aggravated harassment of an employee by an inmate. When he is sentenced in April, Joy is expected to receive 16 years to life in prison.
