BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Fire may have destroyed the "Upper Terrace" of Briarcliff Manor's Law Memorial Park pavilion, but its reconstruction is now underway. And the village is giving residents and businesses a way to help -- and put evidence of it in stone.

Well, in brick.

The project to replace the wood and stone structure should be complete by mid-May. While the new pavilion will have the same look as the old one, it will sport upgrades as well, including better security and fire protection systems, a new bathroom and ramp system to improve accessibility, and a new terrace.

The insurance proceeds are covering the improved security and fire systems, and the bulk of the reconstruction; a grant is covering a lot of the costs of the new accessibility features; and the village is picking up the rest of the tab.

"This new open terrace area will vastly improve the facility, its flexibility and overall enjoyment of the park and the pavilion area," the township noted.

"It is also the project component that provides you with an opportunity to be a permanent part of the revitalization of this beloved Law Park recreation complex."

Locals are invited to purchase engraved bricks, in one of two sizes, which will be part of the new terrace. Bricks purchased before Jan. 20 are guaranteed to be installed with the terrace's initial construction and so be part of the unveiling, during the May grand opening of the facility.

The early-bird orders are also cheaper: $75 for each 6-by-6 brick and $125 for each 6-by-9 brick. After Jan. 20, it goes up to $100 and $150.

The village also provides sample reasons and inscriptions on its flyer for the program. For example, individuals might want to congratulate graduates, commemorate life events, or honor or remember loved ones. And businesses and organizations can show their support -- and get eternal publicity.

See the program flyer for more detailed info, and click here to order the bricks, on the village website. You can also mail in the order form from the flyer, or bring it by the Recreation Office.
