BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. - Two separate drives to collect goods for U.S. soldiers overseas are currently underway in Briarcliff schools.
The American Red Cross and the Interact Club are collecting items for care packages being sent overseas to military personnel. The deadline for collections is Tuesday. Donations can be brought to Briarcliff High School, Room 217.
Some of the items needed are AA and D batteries, gum or mints, baby wipes, beef jerky, board games, boot socks, canned food, cereal or granola bars, coffee and tea, dice, deodorant, disposable cameras, dominoes, DVD movies, foot powder, Gatorade, hand warmers, inflatable pillow, pens, jelly beans, long distance phone cards, magazines, word puzzles, vitamins, toothbrushes, razors, playing cards, paperback books, nuts and microwave popcorn.
Meanwhile, at Todd Elementary School, Cub Scouts of Briarcliff Pack 6 are collecting small-size toiletries and gift items for a returning battalion of 150 single soldiers with no families. "Welcome Home" cards made by children are also encouraged.
All donations can be left in donations boxes at Todd Elementary until Friday, Feb. 10. Anyone interested in making a large donation can contact Briarcliff Pack 6 at briarcliffpack6@gmail.com.
