BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Here are some of the stories that topped the news in Briarcliff Manor this week:

  • Westchester is dealing with first federal government shutdown in 17 years after Congress failed to agree on a spending plan. St. Paul’s Church, in Mount Vernon, Westchester County’s only National Historical Site,was closed because of the shutdown.
  • A Briarcliff student performs in an anti-bullying musical, whose cast is made up entirely of kids from  Westchester County. "The New Kid" is a musical about students at a middle school dealing with peer pressure, hazing, bullying and the importance of staying true to oneself.
  • Rose A. DiChiara, a longtime resident of Briarcliff Manor, died Sept. 30. She was 80.  She worked for many years at Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers in Ossining. She was a parishioner of St. Theresa's Church in Briarcliff Manor and served on the parish council
