Briarcliff Public Works To Flush Fire Hydrants

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- The Village of Briarcliff Department of Public Works will flush out fire hydrants in town periodically throughout the week.

Areas to be flushed include: Washburn Road from Pleasantville Road to Chappaqua Road, Chappaqua Road from Washburn Road to the Edith Macy Girl Scout Camp, Summerland Lane; Canterbury Court.

Depending on the weather and other Public Works demands, the start time is approximately 9 AM with completion at about 3:30 PM.

Although fire hydrant flushing seems contrary to water conservation, the process flushes sediments from mainline pipes, which enhances water quality, verifies the proper operation of fire hydrants and valves, aids in determining weaknesses in the water system, helps to identify closed valves and weak flows in the water main and verifies ample water flow for fire fighting.
