BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. Because of the numerous power lines and tree limbs down after the snow storm, the mayor and village Board of Trustees "strongly recommend" that parents and children stay home tonight and refrain from Halloween trick or treating.
"The village work force has been removing downed trees and limbs over the weekend and continues in their efforts," Briarcliff village officials said in a press release. They added, however, that "the damage remains extensive and dangers still exist."
If residents feel they must go out, village officials urged that they use "extreme caution" and stay in their immediate neighborhoods.
"Most of all, respect posted dangers," officials said. "Do not cross barricaded areas, do not walk near downed wires. Wear bright, reflective clothing and carry a flash light."
Ossining town officials also urged trick-or-treaters to take extra caution.
"Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by snow, tree limbs, leaves or water," they said.
