From food and toy drives to fundraisers, several organizations are helping the less fortunate in Ossining and Briarcliff Manor to get all they need this year. The Open Door Foundation Holiday Toy Drive continues through Dec. 14. Residents are asked to make a child’s holiday a happier one by donating new and unwrapped toys to Open Door Foundation’s Holiday Toy Drive. The toys and gifts will be given to the young patients of Open Door Family Medical Centers from ages newborn to 14 years old.
The organization’s goal is to collect 2,500 new, unwrapped toys from several locations in Ossining and Briarcliff Manor. The locations include Ossining Open Door Family Medical Centers, 165 Main St., A&P Supermarket, 1882 Pleasantville Road, Club Fit Briarcliff, 584 N. State Road and Value Drugs, South State Road. Open Door also has created online wish lists at Amazon, Toys ‘R’ Us and Kohls. For Amazon.com, residents can donate items under “Open Door Holiday Toy Drive.” For Toys ‘R’ Us, residents can go to toysrus.com and the list is “#31745345.” For Kohls, the listing at kohls.com is “Special Days #1797131.”

Businesses in Ossining and Briarcliff also are accepting toy donations through Toys For Tots until Dec. 14. The businesses are Emigrant Savings Bank, Mahopac National Bank, The UPS Store-Briarcliff, Landmark Diner, Goldfish restaurant, Walgreen’s Pharmacy, Health Smart Pharmacy, Value Drug Family Center, Wallauer’s, Highland Cleaners, Curves Figure Salon, Claremont Gardens-Leasing Office, Ossining Police Headquarters and the Ossining Town & Village Clerk’s Office. The Baker-Collyer Christmas Cheer Fund, which was started by “an Ossining merchant who witnessed two children picking through a garbage pile for food 97 years ago,” is asking for contributions this year, according to a press release. More than 370 local families in the Ossining area were aided through last year’s efforts. The money goes solely to purchase food for the holiday baskets. The administration efforts are handled by volunteers and the baskets are packed and delivered by members of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department. Packing will take place Dec. 21 at A & P, Pleasantville Road and be delivered Dec. 22. The Club At Briarcliff Manor will celebrate the season with a senior party to benefit the Greater Ossining Food Pantry from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday. The event, which will feature The Old Mill Singers, takes place at the Club At Briarcliff Manor, 25 Scarborough Road.
The Ossining Food Pantry is set for its holiday distribution on Dec. 20 and 21. The Ossining Food Pantry is located at Trinity Church, 7 S. Highland Ave. Those looking for more information are asked to contact Martin Engelhardt at 914 762-1878.
