The incident happened just after 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, outside an office building at 944 North Broadway in Yonkers, the city's police department said on Saturday, June 7.
According to police, the gunfire stemmed from a fight between two men inside a nearby office building that spilled out onto the street. One of the men allegedly pulled a gun and fired about three shots at the other before fleeing.
Responding officers found several 9mm shell casings at the scene, confirming reports of gunfire. Police said no one was injured and no property damage was reported. The road was shut down temporarily as detectives launched an investigation.
A short time later, officers located the suspect a few blocks away on Executive Boulevard. He was identified as James Morris, 34, of Yonkers.
Morris was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree reckless endangerment.
According to Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza, the shooting happened in one of the "city's busiest medical corridors."
"We will not tolerate this kind of violence in our communities—especially near places of care and healing," Sapienza said.
The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office is now prosecuting the case.
