Ossining celebrated the Winter Solstice by hosting a Make Music Day on Dec. 21. Free live music was performed throughout the village. The event was organized by Make Music Ossining Briarcliff.

"This area is bursting with talent and it was the perfect way to highlight music and celebrate a really fun day." said Miriam Risko, one of the creators of the event.

Organizers worked with business owners and community leaders to find unlikely spots and turn them into temporary music venues. People could hear music at the Ossining Library, Shine Salon and Spa, Six Degrees of Separation, The Boathouse, and even Walgreens.

The night ended with a Christmas carol flash mob that met in the parking lot of Risko Music and walked up Watson Ave. singing Christmas songs for all the residents in the neighborhood.

"It was a great day of music," said Mike Risko "We really enjoyed going to each venue to see the musicians perform. It was also nice to see how customers passing by smiled when they saw a musician playing."

Christina Picciano, one of the performers at the event, said she enjoyed making music for the Ossining community.

"Although Winter Solstice is a great time to reflect and celebrate it can also be dark and depressing," Picciano, who performed at the Boathouse and Six Degrees and is a member of the band All My Friends, said. "I'm so happy to have been able to be surrounded by my community to lift people's spirits."
