Briarcliff Community Day To Feature Comedy, Cars

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – With a local ventriloquism comedy act featured on “America’s Got Talent,” classic car show and dozens of other events, Saturday’s Briarcliff Manor Community Day 2012 promises to be the biggest night of the year for the village.

The longstanding traditional day celebrating the Village of Briarcliff Manor kicks off with swimming at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Law Memorial Park and expands at 4 p.m. with family games and entertainment on the park field throughout the night. While the day has consistently featured swimming at the pool, games, dancing, music and fireworks, organizers said the event should grow to quite a spectacle this year. The tri-state area's own John Pizzi, a comedian and ventriloquist who was featured last year on NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent” is one of the major highlights of the year.

“This is the first year John’s going to be a part of Community Day and we’re really excited to have him,” said Henry Jamin, Briarcliff Manor Recreation Department superintendent. “The community loves this event and it’s a great way to wrap up the summer. We always try to bring in quality entertainers and John should put on a great show. It was cool to see someone local on national television and to be able to bring him out here.”

This year’s festivities include another first with a village-wide classic car Drive About. Village Manager Philip Zegarelli said he’s hopeful dozens of classic cars will join together to drive around the village starting at around noon at Law Memorial Park.

“Community Day makes Briarcliff what it is,” Zegarelli said. “We’re going to get together and have fun and spend time with friends in the community. It’s a great way to finish off the summer.”

Rounding out Saturday’s activities will be a Briarcliff Manor Public Library Book Sale in the afternoon and the dedication of the Blue Star Monument honoring the armed forces at the Pleasantville Road Pocket Park at 11 a.m.
