Bear Sighting Near Elementary School In Westchester Prompts Police Response

Police responded to an elementary school in Northern Westchester after a bear was seen near the grounds.

The incident happened on Thursday, June 26, at around 12:30 p.m., when the animal was sighted near Woodside Elementary School in Peekskill, according to Lt. Adam Renwick of the Peekskill Police Department.

Officers who responded reported that the bear was last seen entering the woods nearby, Renwick said.
