KATONAH, N.Y. -- The athletic teams at The Harvey School had a very successful week. The results were:

Boys'JV soccer

The team traveled to the Brunswick School Oct. 15 and was defeated, 3-0. Harvey battled Brunswick step for step but Brunswick took the early lead, 1-0. With a minute left in the first half, freshman Noah Kagan just missed tying the game off a feed from fellow freshman Jarrod Waner and Brian Alvarado, but was robbed by the Brunswick goalie. Brunswick scored early in the second half and then another about halfway through for the final margin of victory.

The team won its fifth match, outplaying visiting Master’s ,3-1, Oct. 16. Ava Gurman struck first for the Lady Cavs in the seventh minute off a feed from Briana Frieri. In the 15th minute, Aila Prieto slipped a pass through the defense to Gurman  who promptly put the ball in the back of the net. Shortly after a quick goal by Master’s two minutes into the second half, Prieto scored off a scramble in front of the Crusaders’ goal to complete the scoring for Harvey. Sarah Chintz hadsix6 saves in goal.

The team defeated Storm King, 2-1 on Oct. 19. The Lady Cavs were able to test the two Storm King goalies throughout the game on the way to their sixth win of the season. Gurman scored 15 minutes into the game when Briana Frieri served a corner kick into the goalie box that Gurman redirected into the net. Ten minutes later, Gurman scored again on a lead pass from Sammi Aloi. Storm King’s only goal came late in the second half on a breakaway.

The team made the trip Oct. 16 to the Master's School of Connecticut. Senior goalkeeper Corey Eisenband played superbly with 13 saves. Thirty-four minutes in, Master's was able to volley in a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead. Sixty minutes in, after a save, Eisenband launched a punt to half field, where senior captain Rob VanRaamsdonk was able to win it, beat his defender, break away and drive the ball into the lower left-hand corner to tie the game.

The team hosted EF International Academy on Oct. 19. Facing a squad of talented international players, the Cavaliers played tough right from the opening whistle with admirable defensive efforts from seniors Charlie Seider and Harry Solomon.

Sixteen minutes in, however, an EFI midfielder played the ball over the top of Harvey's defense allowing for a swift forward to take the ball one-on-one to goal and giving EFI the early lead. Minutes before the half was called, VanRaamsdonk juked past a defender and chipped it to forward Sacha Kanto who cracked the ball into the back of the net, tying the game.

Sixty minutes in, VanRaamsdonk struck a shot past the keeper only to have it ping off the far post. Then, things looked bleak when EFI was able to score on a beautiful two-on-one play. With minutes to play, freshman Stephen Nadler placed a corner kick perfectly in the box for Jake Cohn who, rising above the scrum, headed the ball in to tie the game.

Varsity football

Harvey’s 34-8 victory Oct. 19 against Forman showcased a dominant effort from the start. Its defense shut down the Forman's offense and Harvey took a 22-0 first half lead. Jacob Flemester lived in the opponents’ backfield all day, coming up with two sacks and harassing the Forman ball carriers all game. Christian Artuso provided solid play in the Harvey defensive backfield, intercepting a pass at a key moment in the game while Nathan Gold dominated on the defensive line. The game was sealed with eight minutes left when DeShaun Hilliard intercepted a pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown adding to his two earlier rushing touchdowns.
