Sabet compares the promoters of marijuana to the promoters of tobacco. He will discuss the negative effects that marijuana may have on adolescent brains, including addiction, impairments in learning and memory, and loss of motivation.
Sabet has studied, researched, written about, and implemented drug policy for almost 20 years. He is currently the director of the Drug Policy Institute at the University of Florida and an Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.
He has worked in the Clinton, Bush, and Obama administrations.
The drug-prevention groups are Mount Kisco Partners in Prevention, the Bedford/Lewisboro/Pound Ridge Drug Abuse Prevention Council, and Family U.
"Reefer Sanity" will be at John Jay High School, 60 North Salem Road, Cross River. on Wednesday, Oct 28, and at Fox Lane High School, Route 172, Bedford, on Thursday, Oct. 29. The program is free and does not require registration.
The presentation is directed towards all community members, and will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at both high schools.
