BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Sierra Club leaders from the Lower Hudson Group announced the club’s endorsement of Chris Burdick in his bid for re-election as Bedford Town Supervisor.
Burdick co-chairs Sustainable Westchester, including a successful solarize campaign to encourage residential and commercial installation of solar panels.
During his three years on the Town Master Plan Committee, from 2000-03, he was instrumental in developing legislative priorities for the environment, including strengthening Bedford’s aquifer protection zone, expanding the wetlands buffer zone, increasing support for open space initiatives and exploring the expansion of greenways, the group said.
Burdick pledges to continue strong action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He expresses a sense of urgency about global climate change and the need to preserve our endangered resources, the group said.
“Chris is the only and best choice to run Bedford,” the group said in a statement. "Chris Burdick has demonstrated unrelenting commitment to preserving Bedford’s natural resources and drinking water. In a little over a year and half as supervisor, he has championed single-stream recycling to reduce the waste flow and carbon footprint, community choice aggregation with a 100 percent renewable energy option, strengthened wetlands law and continued budget support for open space funds. Chris has shown a deep commitment and has been true to his promises to the environmental community.”
