To the Editor:

Monopolizing Yorktown In the real life version of Yorktown Monopoly, Supervisor Michael Grace and his fellow Town Board members are the bank. The Town Board is already used to spending Yorktown taxpayers' money like it’s Monopoly money. Yorktown taxpayers would serve as the rest of the players. We can use Grace's antique car collection as the board pieces.

The game is set up so that with almost every roll of the dice you wind up landing on a square that forces you to pay more and more taxes. The street names on the board would also have to be changed to fit Yorktown. In Yorktown Monopoly, instead of putting up hotels on The Boardwalk you put up eight-family apartment buildings in formerly residential areas on Lexington Avenue. For laughs, you can see how many businesses and apartments you can pile on top of one another on a tiny Kear Street lot.

We've already landed on Water Works, so we’re currently paying higher water bills. Yorktown's already trying to monopolize commercial garbage pickup. Instead of buying railroads, you build a mixed-use Tower of Babel next to Railroad Depot Park. Don’t forget to pay your new highway garage tax when you land on that square.

What about land swapping between Yorktown and land developers on Front Street (Yorktown’s newest multimillion-dollar acre.)?

Remember to follow the instructions on Chance and Community Chest cards.

Chance Cards would read, “Rezone Neighborhoods -- Residential to Commercial” and “Pay No Taxes -- Collect a Yorktown Paycheck." Other cards would read, “See Campaign Contributor -- Collect $500.” Don’t forget the ever-popular “Land Developers Anything Goes Wildcard.”

Community Chest cards would read, "Create a Partisan Quality of Life Committee -- Kill Public Comment, Go Directly to Jail" and “Closed-Door Work Session -- Lose One Turn.”

In Yorktown Monopoly, the rules are subject to change without notice. The only other rule is that the bank always wins, and the taxpayers always pay. Undoubtedly, Yorktown Monopoly can only be played with so much impunity because of the ample supply of “Get Out of Jail Free” cards.
