Yonkers resident Eddie Jackson was taken into police custody on Wednesday, May 22, while at Yonkers Criminal Court for an unrelated matter, Yonkers Police Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said.

According to police, investigators were able to develop information and recovered surveillance video that identified Jackson as the shooter of a 24-year-old man on Warburton Avenue on Saturday, May 18 outside of a liquor store.

Politopoulos said that on the day of the shooting, Jackson approached a group of men outside the liquor store, firing several shots at his victim, striking him at least twice before fleeing the scene. The incident is reportedly the culmination of an ongoing dispute between the two men.

Jackson’s victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Politopoulos did not say what brought Jackson to court on Wednesday.

Investigators proceeded to execute a search warrant in an effort to locate the handgun used in the shooting and to recover additional evidence. Politopoulos said that the investigation is ongoing and more information may be released as it continues.

Jackson was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault, both violent felonies. He is expected to be arraigned and remanded to the Westchester County Jail on Thursday.

“Violent acts will not be tolerated in our city and in our communities, and those who would choose to engage in this behavior are forewarned that the Yonkers Police will commit every resource to track you down, arrest you, and deliver you into the Criminal Justice System where you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner stated. “Our detectives quickly made an arrest only days after the incident, a testament to their professionalism and dedication to public safety, and I applaud their efforts.”
