SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. -- New York State Police announced that an investigation is ongoing into the recent vandalism of playground equipment at the shuttered Lewisboro Elementary School.
State police said Wednesday that they responded to the incident on Dec. 27, and that it is believed that have occurred on Dec. 23 or Dec. 24.
"Police conducted numerous interviews regarding the incident and the case remains under investigation," police said.
The vandalism involved graffiti that included a swastika, Katonah-Lewisboro Schools Superintendent Andrew Selesnick wrote in a Tuesday email to parents.
State Police ask that anyone with information that can be used for the probe call 914-769-2600.
Lewisboro Elementary School was closed in 2014 due to falling enrollment across the school district's younger grades. A consolidation of services among the district's three remaining elementary schools was subsequently done.
Although the school is closed, state police note that its playground "is regularly used by neighborhood children."
