Officers with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department say Jason J. Dance, 45, was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and charged with three felony counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child.

Investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation say they were notified by members of the Department of Homeland Security that they had been monitoring an IP address in Carmel for the possession of child exploitation videos in August 2018.

Officers worked alongside Homeland Security to conduct an investigation that led to a Carmel resident. On Oct. 12, 2018, investigators carried out a search warrant on a residence in Carmel that resulted in the discovery of more than 75 electronic devices, according to the Putnam Sheriff.

Over the following months, investigators conducted a “thorough analysis” of the seized devices and identified Dance as the user responsible for possessing child exploitation videos. He surrendered to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office with his attorney and was released on his own recognizance pending a future court date.
