Thomas G. DeMarchi, the former Commissioner of the Carmel Fire Department, has died at the age of 67.

DeMarchi, who lived his final days at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, died the evening of Sunday, Oct. 13.

Born in Brooklyn on July 5, 2952, he moved to Mahopac in 1969, where he went on to graduate from Mahopac High School. He attended college at Lowell Technical Institute in Massachusetts and studied cooking until his departure in 1973 to pursue a career as a police officer in Carmel.

He spent a total of 23 years serving and protecting citizens. He also spent several years serving as the Carmel Fire Department Commissioner and as a member of the Carmel Ambulance Corporation.

He was also a member of the Carmel Police Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police - Stephen Driscoll Lodge, and the Knights of Columbus.

In his downtime, he enjoyed building homes, including the one he raised his family in. He loved to fix up cars in the garage he built himself, and those who knew him well say he was “able to put the pieces of almost anything together again.”

He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Christine DeMarchi, as well as his oldest daughter, Theresa. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Carrie, his three children, Matthew, Andrea and Thomas and his granddaughter, Gabriella. He is also survived by his sisters, Christine, Barbara, Patricia and Suzanne, and brothers, Michael and William.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rosary Hill in Hawthorne and the Carmel Ambulance Corporation.
