BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. Frederick Brenyah, a New York State corrections officer, faces up to four years in state prison for raping a 56-year-old inmate at the Taconic Corrections Facility for women in Bedford Hills.
Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced Tuesday that Brenyah, 62, of Yonkers, was convicted following a jury trial. He was found guilty of one count of a third-degree criminal sex act, a class E Felony; one count of third-degree attempted rape, a class A misdemeanor; and one count of official misconduct, a class A misdemeanor.
According to the District Attorney's office, on Sept. 19, 2010, Brenyah encountered an inmate who was on her way to retrieve an iron for her uniform and asked her to return to her cell.
On her way back, she was pulled the inmate into a bathroom for corrections officers by Brenyah, who held her against a radiator and briefly engaged in sexual intercourse and oral sex with her, according to the DA.
Assistant District Attorney Fredric I. Green, chief of the Sex Crimes Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Joyce Miller, also of the Sex Crimes Bureau, prosecuted the case.
Sentencing is set for July 10.
