A horse was killed after being hit by a vehicle in Northern Westchester.

The crash took place late Monday, Feb. 17 on Route 121 in Bedford when the horse had gotten loose and was in the roadway, said the Bedford Fire Department.

According to the department, a second loose horse was cared for by members of the fire department.

A firefighter on the scene involved with the equestrian community was able to contact a veterinarian to come to the scene to care for the second animal.
